Ah gather plenty beer, pop corn, nuts, corn curls, wet wipes, ah empty 64oz bottle (just in case) and even a couple corn beef sandwiches... some with cabbage, some without. Den ah cock up in front de TV to take a watch... bam! Yuh know ah cyah find de contest nowhere. When ah tell yuh ah salty. Cause like de World Cup, all eyes of de world was on de 2007 Miss World Contest except these Yankees. On Saturday 1st, over two billion people across 174 countries tune in for de event held in Sanya, China this year. Just not de one I happen to be in.

As a avid fan of Miss T&T's Valene Maharaj, of course I was well informed about de upcoming event. She ent win but she real blaize up de place. 5th place behind Sweeden, Mexico, Angola and de People's Republic of China in dat order and trust me, it was close. Ah must send a special shout to Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillips for also mashing up de place. Yendi get 1st runner up in Miss World Beach Party, was a finalist for Miss World Sports, Beauty with a Purpose, Top Model and Miss World Talent. Dat is woman! Barbados withdrew and St. Lucia was a no show... but before you start crying... Miss Grenada, Miss Vivian Charlott Burkhardt placed in de finals after 37 years of the event and if you check de profile (www.missgrenadaworld.com/contestants/vivan) you will see why!!!

An so is when ah decide to check out meh flight down to Jamaica for a good all round woman ah learn de bad news. For years now we know dat de World Bank and International Money Fund have Jamaica's economy in it's back pocket. No doubt that tourism has been hailed as de #1 way to get furrin dullars to de island since de agriculture industries have been suffering and American franchises popping up all over de island. So what happen to Air Jamaica? Tough decisions must be made. Like losing a leg to save yuh life, de Bruce Golding Administration say how de money that dey throwing into de Airline could do better to help de country Socal Services. I not sure, but it sound like they describe de airline like de Irak War? So dey planning to sell the state-owned carrier by 2009. My words could never be as smooth as a politician, "We hope to have restructured and divested Air Jamaica, such that it is no longer a strain on the budget by the latest March 2009 ... " Judgement!

Speaking of Judgement time, 1. Sarah Connor Cronocles de TV series coming in January and 2. De Miss World Swim Suit contest. Ah want allya to act on de first and not on de second. Ya see Christmas is here and all man jack looking for little change to buy de mommy, woman, outside woman, children and outside children ah little gift to put under de tree. Even woman tiefin fuh dey boy fren. National Flour Mills in Trinidad say how de international demand for wheat gone insane. So on Monday for de 3rd time in de last 9 months de price of flour went up. This time by 14.93% Gees... jes now all de pigeon ya does see on Wrightson Road ga cyah afford to land on de roof of de Mills. For who not paying attention, Flour = Bake for de Shark, barra for de Doubles, de whole Roti, de roll for de currants, black cake, pastel and hops bread just to name a few. So, with all dat and de Christmas season, you could well imagine crime round de world, including Trinidad is at it's seasonal high. So when I hear that 20 people get robbed on Sunday, I wasn't too surprised. But den when ah hear dat it was not just at gun point, but gun, cutlass and 2 dog point... and it was down at Las Cuevas in de middle of de day, I near couldn't believe it! Ole time tief used to take your shoes, money, jewlery or anything you leave unattended and run. Make ya feel stupid for taking all dat to de beach and stupider for leaving it out for de taking. But when yuh getting hold up on de beach like is midnight in a dark alley, I figure things bad. You don't go home feeling stupid. You does go home and lock ya door tight and kiss ya children and never want to go out again. This ent no so called "harmless" tief who does take yuh clothes from de line. This is hard back criminals dat kidknapping and killing. Men with dat armunition ent want to hear dat all you have is a $40 for a bake and shark and a beer. Them sound like dey was taking gold filling outa people mouth.

But let me say this before everybody cancel their flights to Trinidad and Tobago or even just their beach plans... Try to keep a few things in mind. Las Cuevas beach is over a mile long and alot of it runs behind a mountain far out of view from life guards (who saw nothing) or the main offices of the beach. This area is often referred to as de Las Cuevas Depot is known for muggings. Also, the TDC of the Ministry of Tourism is working towards implementing security services at visitor facilities in Trinidad. La Brea Pitch Lake, Maracas Bay, Las Cuevas Beach, Manzanilla Beach and Vessigny Beach are listed to have better security measures in place. When? I can't say. Elections gone so we not sure how much getting done until politicians need your vote again!

1st We Parang, Then We Soca! As pannist Dane Gulston mentioned to us in a recent interview, because of a short Carnival season, it's really the 2007 Parang Season that's getting the short end of the stick.

But we at Trini Jungle Juice say, let's not forget about the Parang music that makes the pastels & ham, sorrel, turkey, punch-a-creme and ginger beer all go down that much sweeter when we liming!
